After flying out of Nairobi, we arrived in Senegal. As we departed from the plane, a colorful, lively vendor in Muslim garb (a long 'shirt') approached us. From wrists to shoulders, his arms were covered with many strings of beads. He called out "Ten Dollars! Ten Dollars!" to me. My bargaining instinct arose. I offered him ten dollars for two necklaces. He said yes, and the deal was struck.
Each necklace is strung with glass beads strung on wire. Some beads are “sandwich” beads consisting of layers of multicolor pigments fused with surface designs. Others are tiny balls some as small as seeds. Most excellent condition.
One necklace: $30

Two necklaces, each made of glass beads strung on wire. Some are “sandwich” beads consisting of layers of multicolor pigments fused with surface designs.
Acquired at the airport in Senegal from a Muslim vendor upon whose arms were many similar strings of beads.
The “sandwich” beads are likely of Venetian origin perhaps traded in decades past. Most of the beads are typical, colorful glass beads.
